Congratulations to Ms. Wade’s 7th grade Focus Class at Crabapple Middle School, they are the winners of the first annual Nirvana Create-Our-Commercial Contest. The class will receive a cash prize of $200 and an ice cream celebration party. The runner-up prize goes to Ekene Obele, a 6th grader at Crabapple Middle School. Nirvana's Empowerment Program is featured in Atlanta's "The Sunday Paper" newsweekly. Writer Suzanne Wright states, "Scott Shickler’s program encourages kids to learn about finance, leadership and ice cream. He started the Nirvana Café and Grille, now in its second year of operation, at his son's urging. The Sunday Paper recently spoke to Shickler about his desire to empower youth and his ice cream reconnaissance, which led to the restaurant’s signature creation: an amalgamation of gelato and gourmet ice cream." "Winter Wonderland" ice cream takes Nirvana by storm. S'now secret that Nirvana Cafe and Grille is the place to chill out for breakfast, lunch, dinner - and for some of the most creatively scrumptious ice cream flavors in town. December proves no exception as "Winter Wonderland" ice cream earns the Creativity Challenge prize for 11-year-old Roshan D'Souza. Video Creativity Contest - Lights, Camera, Action!
So you think you're creative? Now's your chance to prove it... and win money and ice cream at the same time. Nirvana is running a "Create Our Commercial" contest exclusively for the students of Crabapple Middle School.  We're too busy running our restaurant to make a commercial so we want you to do it for us.  And we'll pay... or at least give you a free ice cream.  The rules are simple:  Make it clean, make it fun and make it no longer than 30 seconds.

It’s November, and everyone knows that Turkey Day isn’t far off. But, why wait until Thanksgiving to celebrate? Leo Pryor, a 7-year-old student at Queen of Angels Catholic School, won this month’s ice cream Creativity Challenge with his recipe for “Thanksgiving Feast.” Celebrate the holiday early with this delicious treat made with pumpkin pie ice cream, topped off with candy corn and pecans! Your tastebuds will be saying “Happy Thanksgiving” in no time!

You don’t see a blue moon too often, and that’s partly why “Over the Rainbow” is so special! McKensie Podell, age 10, won the October Creativity Challenge with her recipe for this delicious, blue ice cream. She combined rainbow sprinkles, mini marshmallows and Nirvana’s new “Blue Moon” ice cream to create a refreshing, creamsicle flavored treat that is sure to bring a smile to your face! Peanut Butter Sandwich is a must have back to school treat and hence the name of this month’s winning ice cream flavor. September’s Creativity Challenge winner is 11-year old Olivia Medley, a 6th grader from High Meadows School in Roswell. Her creation contains Stellar Vanilla ice cream mixed with peanut butter, fudge and peanut butter cups. Did we mention peanut butter…yum, yum!

You’re really gonna like the atmosphere... Over here we’ve got the Cosmopolitan, that’s basically grilled chicken salad, all wrapped up, that’s tasty... The Caribbean Salad looks really good... Perhaps two heads are better than one! August’s Creativity Challenge winners are
8-year-old twins Sarah and Katie Hallmark. The third graders’ creation, “Praline Dream,” combines cake batter ice cream with brownie bites, caramel and pralines–a decadent combination for the sweet tooth in you! So, pull up and cool off from the hot August days with their delicious treat. Your tastebuds will thank you!

The “Roswell Neighbor” news-daily ran a front-page feature on Nirvana’s popular Creativity Challenge. Editor Amber Summers writes, “With a creative spark, Erica Radermacher’s (July’s winner) new ice cream flavor, ”Pop!,” has become a summer hit.” According to operating partner Jeff Waller, “We want to get kids involved in a creative manner, as both a lesson and project for them.” Nirvana has received over 1,000 entries since starting in February.

Erica Radermacher, a 7-year-old student at Wood Acres Country Day School, is the July winner of the Nirvana Creativity Challenge! The second-grader’s patriotic entry, “POP!,” combines Nirvana’s homemade Stellar Vanilla ice cream with red and blue Pop Rocks for a peppy 4th of July treat. The graduation ceremony was packed, standing room only, for the graduates of Nirvana’s first Camp CEO sessions, co-sponsored by the Roswell Recreation & Parks Department. Nirvana founder Scott Shickler was honored to award the graduates as “Certified CEOs”.

From swim instruction to custom jewelry to a CD/MP3 service, these kids are ready for business. According to Shickler, “The energy and confidence these kids bring to their enterprises is amazing.

St. Joseph’s 6th-grader Emily Brittain displays genuine fatherly love with her creation of Daddy Deluxe, the winning entry in the June 2006 Nirvana Creativity Challenge. Nick and Syd Hopkins are a pair of ingenious siblings, and the winners of the May 2006 Nirvana Creativity Challenge. The brothers honor their mother with their winning creation, Kisses for Mom, a mixture of banana ice cream, fudge swirls, and chocolate kisses. Nick is a first grader and Syd a fifth grader at Sweet Apple Elementary.

Nirvana recently assisted Sweet Apple Elementary in selecting their Teacher of The Year, Tracy Kuzminsky. Jeff Waller, Partner and COO of Nirvana, cooperated with a team of parents, teachers, and administrators to view each nominee in the classroom and conduct interviews. “Tracy was beyond exceptional,” says Waller. “She was organized, her class had a tremendous learning energy to it, and her love for the children permeated everything she did. And it was inspiring watching all the teachers in action - they obviously love what they do and are great at it.” Congratulations, Tracy!

The featurette pays specific attention to our recently-established Creativity Contest and first two winners, and is sure to bring in a flood of new entrants with their own out-of-this-world flavor ideas in coming months.

Scott is interviewed by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, and discusses Nirvana's plans and programs for community involvement. According to writer Marcia Langhenry, "His goal is for Nirvana Cafe & Grille to become known for making youth empowerment a core value, in somewhat the way Ben & Jerry's became known for protecting rain forests." Scott also describes his upcoming Camp CEO Summer program, where he'll urge kids to "Do what you love and are really, really good at - if you do this regularly, people may not call you a mogul, but they will probably call you "boss." Nirvana CEO Scott Shickler delivers a youth seminar entitled “How to become the C-E-O of Y-O-U” to over 300 students at St. Francis High School. Youth empowerment is a core Nirvana value and is the main reason the restaurant continues to sponsor these types of programs.

January 18 and January 25 are Blessed Trinity Days at Nirvana.  A portion of Nirvana’s proceeds from sales to Blessed Trinity High School customers is donated to 33 students raising money toward a school-sponsored student mission this summer.

During a power outage at Sweet Apple Elementary, the school’s staff aren't left alone in the dark.  Nirvana brings in free coffee and bagels to brighten the spirits of Sweet Apple’s teachers and administrators during the frustrating circumstances.  "It made my team feel great to receive the big thank-you note signed by all the teachers,” says Nirvana’s Managing Partner John Collins.
